Memory & Decision-Making study

What is the Memory and Decision-Making study?

This is one of several studies we are doing to learn more about how children, adolescents, and adults think, act, and form memories. We are also trying to understand how these behaviors change with age as people mature from childhood to adulthood.

Who can participate?

We are currently recruiting participants ages 7 to 22 years old. If you are under 18 years of age, your parent or guardian will need to give their permission for you to participate. Basic eligibility requirements include fluency in English, normal or corrected-to-normal vision, normal or corrected-to-normal audition.

What will happen during the online study?

Participants may complete up to two online testing sessions that last about 1 hour each. During each online testing session, participants will do computerized tasks that involve remembering images or looking at cartoon images and pressing buttons on a computer keyboard in response to pictures on the screen. Sometimes making these responses could earn bonus money. Participants also complete some questionnaires that ask about their preferences, thoughts, and feelings.

Will I be paid for participating?

For each online testing session, participants are compensated with a $20 gift card and may earn an additional bonus depending on their decisions during the task.

I’m interested in participating in this study. What is the next step?

Great to hear you’re interested! The next step is simple: fill out our screening survey hereIf you would instead like to do the screening survey with us over the phone, you can reach us at 617-496-4979 or email us at andl@g.harvard.edu to schedule a time. If you’re emailing us, please be sure to include your age (or your child’s age if you are a parent), as well as a comment that you’re interested in the Memory and Decision-Making study.

Please note that before we can send you a link to the online tasks, we will need you to complete our screening survey to determine that you (if you are 18-22 years old) or your child (if they are 7-17 years old) are eligible to participate in the study. This screening involves questions about you or your child’s development and health.
